Full-on-summer in Victoria. Yay!

In celebration of summer, a Special Victoria Laughter Yoga Event:

Laughter Yoga in the park Sunday August 18th at 10:30am.

We will meet again at SaxePointPark in Esquimalt for some yuks and yee-haws…i.e. Laughing for No Reason.

 8.              Laughter Yoga makes us more creative and imaginative. It improves our sense of humor.

 9.              Laughter shrinks the hurts of everyday life to a smaller, if not inconsequential size. It interrupts the power struggle and releases tension and anger.

 10.        Laughter helps us to feel good and feel peaceful, as well as be more self-confident and self-expressive.

So, whether you are a regular laugher or have not laughed-till-it-aches for some time or have never been to a Laughter Yoga session, here is a great way to pump up your “Feel Good Factor.”

At the most recent gathering of the HODOJO I was speaking about the film  project my son Chris has been working on for several years. Some of you have met him at laughter yoga when he was visiting from the states on a few occasions. Chris has inherited the condition called Huntingtons Disease which some people know was what took the life of Woody Guthrie. It has been his life mission to inform and educate both the general public and the medical community as to the nature of the disease as well as advocating for improved care and facilities for those in the latter stages of the illness. Chris is now in the early stages of Huntingtons and the time he has remaining to complete and distribute this important film is limited. Below is a generic write up of the request for people who may be moved by the project to contribute to the final push to raise the funds required to complete and begin the distribution of the film. The write-up is set up so that it can be copied and pasted into an e-mail and passed on to others..

What this has to do with laughter!!!  I find that laughter opens my heart and renders me available to the vulnerabilities of my life in a most unusual way. Somehow there is a strengthening of the spirit, an inner resolve to proceed into life, facing it as it presents itself in each moment. Connecting the heart with the inner spirit of laughter serves to strengthen my actions in the world in a way that allows for generosity of spirit and cultivation of an other-centeredness and less of a self-centeredness. I am simply propelled into the world wondering how may I be of service. I can personally guarantee you that my life has been altered by the regular practice of cultivating the inner spirit of laughter in the midst of life as it arises in each moment in it various appearances.

I am at the moment involved in a 45 day online campaign to raise the required funds to complete the documentary film Huntington’s Dance. This is a film that my son has been working on for the past 18 years and I am happy to report that the project is coming into the home stretch. However, there are still loose ends before the final edit is completed and there are other costs entailed in getting the film out to the public. Having seen a rough cut version of the film I can tell you that it is not only informative and educational but beautifully and sensitively presented. This is a film that I think will stand on its own as a creative work of art in documentary film making. It also tackles the harsh realities of Huntington’s disease and the courage of the human spirit to confront those realities. The online fund raising campaign began on July 17, 2013 and ends on August 31, 2013.

Over the past years Chris has either funded the film himself or has been involved in fund raising projects that has gotten it to where it is now, in its final stage. But he needs your help to reach the finish line. The way this online campaign works is by telling people that you know about this project and sending them to the website listed below. Whether you choose to donate to the campaign or not, forwarding this information to others is key to the success of this fund raising effort. If everyone who receives this e-mail could send it to one or two others we will make our goal. The use of social media like face book is also another valuable resource for those of you linked into these formats.
