Victoria Laughter Yoga will be on TV.

 

CTV Victoria’s Adam Sawatsky will be at Gene Furbee’s Monday class to record an article on Laughter Yoga for their channel. I suspect the news program.

 

Can you come out to tomorrow Monday to participate in the class? The more the merrier, of course.

 

It is at 4:30pm at 530 Fraser Street VIHA Health Unit. Please arrive a few minutes early as doors are locked at 4:30. (Gene’s classes are free or by donation)

Wednesday again Soren Russow’s very popular class is on again at 6:45 pm at Ingredients Market Store and Café upstairs. For April, it will be on the 1st, 3rd AND 5th Wednesday of the month.

 

(Starting in May, Wednesday classes will be the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month. Friday classes will move as well…stay tuned.)

Laughter and “Dopaminergic Upregulation”…The Brain Researchers’ Definition of Happiness

 

From Master Trainer Jeffrey Briar:

“If you work with medical types it is important to note that DOPAMINE is a neurotransmitter which facilitates (supports) the transfer of neuronal energy, but what is important is WHERE the Dopamine is having its influence.

 

A lot of Dopamine in ONE area of the brain will have a person feeling agitated or fearful; a lot of dopamine in the nucleus accumbens (another area of the brain) has you feel “happy” (and want more of that feeling).

 

So it’s NOT just that “Laughter produces lots of Dopamine” (and thus we feel good), but rather “Laughter encourages more Dopamine IN THE AREA OF THE BRAIN which has us feel happy”.

 

So that’s what it means: Dopaminergic Upregulation (increased levels of the neurotransmitter, Dopamine) IN the specific area of the brain (the nucleus accumbens) associated with feeling good/happy – and wanting more of that feeling (the ‘reward” center).

 

The phrase was what Drs. Berk and Henslin came up with as a definition of “What IS happiness” (to a brain researcher).”
