Ain’t we Got Fun…on Sundays in the Park. Victoria Laughter News June 5, 2014

Another great Laughter Yoga “Laughter in the Park” last Sunday.

I counted 10 of us busting a gut. Some new folks joined us this time.

Every Sunday through the summer, we meet at the sundial in Beacon Hill Park…across from the washrooms.

10:30 (AM, of course. We are a little crazy to be laughing for no reason…but not THAT crazy to be doing it at 10:30 PM!)

It lasts one hour, but the smiles last a lot longer. A great way to get Sunday underway and really enjoy the rest of it to the fullest.

Will you join us this Sunday? (Rain or shine) 🙂

Laughter Yoga at Toastmasters Leadership Training

This Saturday, Vancouver Island Toastmasters has its regular Leadership Training at University of Victoria. I (Matti) have been asked to be a breakout speaker.

The topic? “Is Laughter the Shortcut to Better Speaking?”

I am delighted to have the opportunity to share my love of laughter and its potential for helping to ease the nervousness speakers often have in making their presentations. I will also share some of the protocols from my book The Zen of Joy.

Wish me luck.

Forced Laughter Can Create Real Laughter

Why didn’t anyone notice this before? Well, there’s a powerful social bias against forced laughter which is seen as being manipulative and superficial. In fact, one of the most common criticisms we get in Laughter Yoga Clubs is that artificial laughter or forced laughter is superficial and manipulative – not real. In fact, for ages nearly everyone has equated laughing without a reason with insanity because they feel one must laugh naturally at something which genuinely makes you laugh.

Now let me clear this misnomer: First of all, people who criticize need to be told that we, in Laughter Clubs, approach laughter as an exercise – there is nothing real or fake. These are just 2 kinds of laughter which have their own benefits. Exercising is not a natural trend; we have to make the effort to exercise because we know it is good for us. If it was natural, people would just get up and start running or jogging!!!

About Victoria Laughter Yoga Club

Victoria Laughter Yoga Club is affiliated with Dr. Madan Kataria's School of Laughter Yoga. We laugh: Just ‘cause: ☺It feels good ☺Fights cancer* ☺Conquers stress ☺Improves circulation ☺Smooths out wrinkles ☺Is efficient exercise** ☺Slows the aging process ☺Boosts immunity(fight colds) ☺Oxygen to brain=clear thinking * Dr. Otto Warburg, President, Institute of Cell Physiology, Nobel Prize Winner (twice) says: “Deep breathing techniques increase oxygen to the cells and are the most important factors in living a disease-free and energetic life. When cells get enough oxygen, cancer will not and cannot occur.” (My bolding) **Dr. W. Fry states that 10 minutes of hearty laughter is equal to 30 minutes or rowing or jogging.(Journal of General Psychology, 1938) Laughter Yoga goes beyond just laughter. Founder Dr. Madan Kataria has developed techniques to stimulate childlike playfulness, to adjust the aerobic and stretching component, and to promote emotional flow and release. Laughter Yoga can improve your physical health, release negative thoughts and emotions and get in touch with your spiritual nature. It helps us to develop an attitude of forgiveness, generosity, compassion and helpfulness while actively seeking the happiness of others. Combined, these principles can provide a powerful life-changing experience that we call the inner spirit of laughter. Laughter Yoga Clubs are non-political, non-religious, non-profit. There are a number of clubs in the Victoria area. Email for more info and current schedule:
