Can More Laughter Improve Your Life?

The only way to find out is to laugh more.

 

Some folks say: “Oh, I am a very happy person. I laugh a lot already.”

 

Dr. Kataria, the founder of Laughter Yoga, tells us that to get the health benefits of laughter, we need to laugh for an extended period of 10-15 minutes.

 

For most folks, that is a rarity. Maybe in happens at a comedy club or with a very funny movie. Or even with some close friends.

 

When (and if) it does, we talk about it, don’t we? “Wow, we had a great time. I laughed until my sides ached.”

 

Meanwhile, in LaughterYogaLand, we do this regularly. Every week, we meet for an hour and get warmed up with some laughter “exercises.”

 

For new attendees, they do sometimes report that their stomach muscles got a real workout. (When was the last time, you laughed for an hour?)

 

After a while, we strengthen our “laughter muscles” and don’t feel that ache so much any more. But, we still feel energized, joyous, calm, peaceful, relaxed, released and a host of other positive feelings.

 

It doesn’t last, of course. Slowly, the stresses of modern life take hold once again. That’s why we come back every week. Some of us have made it a daily habit to laugh for 10-15 minutes.

 

Over time, that can make life more enjoyable.

 

And what happens. when life is more enjoyable? It’s an improvement, right?

 

So, YES! Laughter CAN improve your life. It has done for me.
