Has your Amygdala been hijacked?
If you are feeling concern about the virus, the lockdown and so on, it may have been.
You see, the amygdala is our “reptilian” brain.
It is where our instincts to stay alive live.
It is what the system uses to deal with danger in the environment.
It is intended as a life saver in potentially fatal situations.
However, it is meant to be turned on only for short periods until we find a way out of danger. Either by fighting or fleeing (or the third response, which is freezing).
Once the danger is past, we are meant to come back to homeostasis, or balance.
Dr. Joe Dispenza tells us that most folks are in fight or flight response 70% of the time…and that was before COVID-19.
Imagine what it could be now.
The challenge is that the stress hormones, cortisol and adrenaline, are life savers in the short term, but they themselves become a danger to health when they are running continually.
All the other functions of the body basically shut down to meet the momentary danger. There is no energy for digesting food for example. Nor for repairing cellular damage.
Further, the immune system cannot function at anywhere near its peak potential.
We also react instinctively rather than think things through. Thinking is one of the casualties of stress.
So…get your immune system back on line…
